Q: How do prepaid cards work.

A: You go to the store that sells the prepaid card without however much money you want to put on the card plus whatever upfront fee you have to pay and they'll sell it to you. If the card is reloadable, you'll be able to reload it by going back there. You can then use the card just as you would a normal credit card to pay for purchases wherever credit cards are accepted, so long as you don't try to spend more than you loaded the card with.

Q: Will using prepaid cards restore/improve my credit rating?

A: No. This is a common misconception. Prepaid cards are technically not credit cards and therefore do not impact your credit rating. If you want to improve a bad credit rating, look into secured credit cards.
